No. 4 Wesleyan outshines Kenyon

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Winners in four of their last five contests, the Kenyon College women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw Wednesday afternoon. No. 4-ranked Wesleyan University handed the Owls an 8-1 defeat on the courts at the USTA National Campus.

Kenyon, ranked at No. 30, got its lone win from Lalasa Nagireddy. She earned the team point at No. 6 singles, where she defeated Katie Fleischman 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).

The Owls had a couple other close matches, but ones that didn't fall their way. At No. 3 singles, junior Eleni Dakos dropped a 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7) battle to Kristina Yu and, at No. 1 doubles, Dakos paired with first-year Eleni Lazaridou in a tight 8-7 defeat to Yu and Sasha Gaeth.

The team loss dropped Kenyon's season record to 6-3, while the win kept Wesleyan perfect at 7-0. The Owls have a chance to rebound later in the day, when they take on Millsaps College at 6 p.m.
