Owls rebound with shutout of Majors

ORLANDO, Fla. -- After absorbing an 8-1 loss to No. 4 Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon, the Kenyon College women's tennis team returned to the courts at the USTA National Campus in the evening and delivered a lopsided 9-0 victory over the Millsaps College Majors.

With the return of Shadia Amado Aguad to the lineup, the Owls had the freedom to shuffle things up. For the most part, everyone in the lineup was bumped up a spot, giving No. 1 Eleni Lazaridou a well-deserved break.

First-year Allaire Berl temporarily moved into the Kenyon top spot and delivered a pair of wins. At No. 1 doubles, she paired with junior Eleni Dakos to record an 8-0 shutout of Millsaps  No. 1 pairing of Camille Fremaux and Kiana Everhart. When things moved on to singles play, Berl defeated Everhart 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 match and Dakos dumped Madison Williams 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2.

Other two-time winners for Kenyon included Amado Aguad, Lalasa Nagireddy, and Catriona MacIntosh. Amado Aguad teamed with Natalie Connelly to crank out an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Nagireddy and MacIntosh cruised at No. 3 doubles, posting an 8-1 win.

In singles, Amado Aguad won at No. 3. 6-0, 6-2, Nagireedy won at No. 4 by a score of 6-0, 6-2, and MacIntosh coasted at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Rounding out the Kenyon sweep was Irina Beshentseva, who whipped up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.

The Owls, now sporting a 7-3 team record, are done in Florida. Their next scheduled match will be at a neutral site in Stow, Ohio, on March 26 against Sweet Briar College.
