Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Owls run win streak to a dozen

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Continuing with the best start to a season in program history, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team completed its non-conference schedule Saturday and ran its record to 12-0 after a 17-10 victory at University of Mount Union.

The Owls, ranked at No. 19 and No. 22 in two different national polls, also pulled within two games of tying the program record win streak, which was set at 14 by the 2022 team.

With the loss, Mount Union, owner of the first-place spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, slipped to 9-3 overall.

The host Purple Raiders greeted Kenyon with the game's first two goals, but that only served as a wake-up call for the Owls, who rattled off the next five. Mallory Brophy scored two of those five, with Tatumn Eccleston assisting on both, while Julia Losey, Caroline O'Neil, and Kate Lengel accounted for the other three.

The goal sequence in the second quarter was identical to that of the first. Mount Union popped in a pair of goals to move the score to 5-4 in Kenyon's favor, but the Owls came right back with another streak of five straight. This time O'Neil scored twice in the Kenyon run, while Spencer Kirsch, Eccleston, and Ali Hatfield chalked up the other three, giving the Owls a comfortable 10-4 halftime lead.

Hatfield didn't let up after the break, she scored twice more, pushing Kenyon's lead to 12-4. The eight-point margin was the largest of the game and the Owls would hit that mark three more times over the course of the second half.

Mount Union never got closer than six goals the rest of the way.

In addition to her one goal, Eccleston wound up dishing out six assists. Both her assist total and her point total (7) were not only season-highs, but career-high, single-game marks for Eccleston, who currently ranks second on the team with 35 points on the season.

The only Owl with more points is O'Neil, who finished the game with four goals and two assists. She now has 48 points on the season.

Following Hatfield's three goals, Losey, Lengel, Brophy, and Lily Mason each finished with two, as Kenyon outshot Mount Union, 45-24.

In goal, sophomore Nola Garand went the distance for Kenyon and notched seven saves in the win.

Kenyon will now turn its attention back to North Coast Athletic Conference play and will next host The College of Wooster on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. start time.
