WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's tennis team ran its streak to five straight when they entered enemy territory and completed a 9-0 sweep of The College of Wooster. The victory was Kenyon's fourth straight against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition, improving the Owls' record to 10-9 overall and 4-1 in the NCAC.
No. 17-ranked Kenyon did not concede a single set against the Fighting Scots (4-9, 0-3 NCAC). The Owls set the tone with three commanding doubles wins before sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets.
Two Kenyon duos won their doubles bouts 8-1, as Thomas Kallarakal and Eric Zhang got things going at No. 3 before Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and Eliezer Gonzalez took care of business at No. 1. Luis Andres Platas and Christophe Leblanc completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 decision in the No. 2 match.
Zhang (6-1, 6-0), Gonzalez (6-0, 6-1), and Pocasangre Kreling (6-1, 6-0) made quick work of their singles Nos. 5, 6, and 3, respectively, opponents to clinch the dual for the Owls. Platas put together a 6-3, 6-2 finish in the top singles spot, while Rakkan Audeh was the next Owl to finish, winning 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 4 match.Â
The No. 2 singles matchup featured the closest competition of the afternoon, but Kallarakal fended off Alex Drewes 7-5 in set one before a 6-2 set-two win. That victory clinched the 9-0 victory for the Owls, who have a week off before their next outing.Â
Kenyon is scheduled to head to Indiana for their final two regular-season duals. The Owls take on DePauw University (7-5, 3-0 NCAC) at 11 a.m. in Greencastle on Saturday, April 15, before heading to Crawfordsville to face Wabash College (12-5, 3-1 NCAC) the following day.
