Kenyon men win seven events in meet at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio -- Tallying seven event wins Saturday, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team gave NCAA Division I Miami (OH) University all it could handle. The host RedHawks, however, were able to counter Kenyon's surge and come away with a 168-130 dual meet home win.

A significant chunk of Kenyon's points came from senior diver Israel Zavaleta, who went undefeated on the day. He won the one-meter event with a score of 391.35 and went on to complete the sweep with a winning score of 391.80 in the three-meter competition.

Kenyon had four more multi-event winners and three of them competed in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. Yurii Kosian, Aleksa Dobric, Marko Krtinic and Djordje Dragojlovic teamed up to post a winning time of 1:28.47 for the Owls.

As the meet went on, Dobric claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle (20.46), Dragojlovic won the 100-yard freestyle (44.01) and Kosian was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (1:46.81). Of those three, Dragojlovic's time went down as a season-best.

Following the Owls winning relay, James Tracey and Peter Landis took second- and third-place spots, respectively, in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Tracey clocked in at 9:38.34 and Landis hit the wall in 9:40.19.

Kosian then posted a third-place time of 1:40.27 in the 200-yard freestyle, which was followed by second and third-place times from Dragojlovic and Daniel Brooks in the 100-yard backstroke. Dragojlovic clocked in at 48.54 and Brooks posted a 49.82.

In the next two events, the Owls got second-place swims from Noel Tumbasz and Ethan Manske. Tumbasz took silver in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.30 and Manske was runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly, stopping the clock at 1:49.44. Later in the meet, Tumbasz would register another second-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:01.80.

Tracey and Matthew Weiner logged yet another 2-3 finish for the Owls in the 500-yard freestyle with Tracey taking second in 4:39.95 and Weiner taking third in 4:41.98. Then, rounding out Kenyon's top-three finishers in individual events, Krtinic took third in the 100-yard butterfly (48.62) and Noah Hargrove took second in the 400-yard individual medley (3:59.18).

Wrapping up the meet for Kenyon was the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team of Dragojlovic, Krtinic, Brooks and Dobric. That quartet clocked in at 2:58.96.
