Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls end NCAC, season unbeaten streak to Bishops

DELAWARE, Ohio – After amassing a monstrous 56-0-4 record in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) regular season contests dating to 2016, the Kenyon College men's soccer team ended its streak on Wednesday night, falling to Ohio Wesleyan 3-0 on the road.

The Owls simply could not find the back of the net on the evening, despite outshooting the Battling Bishops 11-to-8 and holding a 6-to-1 advantage in corner kicks. The drought on offense coupled with a penalty shot goal and an own goal didn't do any favors to the visitors, who were held scoreless for just the second time this season.

The loss also marks the first of the season for Kenyon (7-1-3, 1-1 NCAC), who entered the contest fresh off of a No. 2 ranking in the NCAA Division III United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, its highest in eight years.

In the first, Ohio Wesleyan (6-3-2, 1-0-1 NCAC) held a substantial edge in shots, racking up five while three found the cage. On the other end of the field, Kenyon had two shots but neither were on goal.

The Bishops eventually got on the board in the 33rd minute, as a cross from the left end line made it through the Owls' back line and found Logan Lewarchick, who tapped in the first goal of the night, a lead which the home team would take into halftime.

Just four minutes after the break, Ohio Wesleyan drew a costly Kenyon penalty that sent Jaggar Brooker to the line for a penalty shot, which he converted to give his team a 2-0 advantage.

The Owls' offense kicked up a notch in the second half, outshooting the Bishops 9-to-3 as four of those shots found the net, but they could not get anything past keeper Sam Whitman.

With 30 minutes left to play, Ohio Wesleyan lined up to take a corner kick, its first and only of the night. The lofted ball glanced off of a Kenyon defender and into the back of the net, a dagger that set the 3-0 final.

Offensively, Gerardo Martinez led the Owls' efforts with three shots and one on goal. Gabriel Romanenko, Ronald Ribera, and Lawrence Taylor also found the cage on their shot attempts. On the other side of the field, Jack Pedreschi had three saves.

Kenyon's record drops to 7-1-3 overall and 1-1 in the NCAC. The Owls have another tough test this weekend, as the squad returns home to take on No. 17 Denison University on Saturday, October 12. The game will kick off at 1:00 pm, and the team will honor its 2025 senior class.
