Owls shoot for faster times at First Chance

GAMBIER, Ohio -- As the national championship draws closer, Kenyon College swimmers have just a couple chances at shaving seconds in an effort to qualify for the national meet. Friday's First Chance Invitational was one of those occasions.

The Owls had several swimmers get close to NCAA 'B' cuts, but just two were able to get their time below the standard. Junior Jordan Herrera and first-year Ashlyn Widmer did so in the 400-yard individual medley. With the 'B' cut set at 4:29.67, Herrera came in at 4:24.19 and Widmer clocked out at 4:26.00. Both of those were collegiate-best times for the Owls.

Sophomore Gwen Eisenbeis came close to a  'B' cut in the 100-yard butterfly, but her time of 56.31, also her collegiate best, was just a bit off the mark (56.06).

The Owls will jump right back in the pool tomorrow for the Fast Chance Invitational, the team's final meet before the NCAA Championship, which is set to start March 20 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
