Ilic leads Kenyon on low board at regional meet

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Senior Katarina Ilic earned a score of 348.35 in one-meter competition Friday evening and led a group of Kenyon College divers during the first day of the two-day NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championship.

Ilic's score put her in a tie for 17th place among the 29 divers who are competing for eight spots in the upcoming NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship. Her best dive of the day was her sixth, a forward 2½ somersault tuck. She was awarded 37.20 points for her effort. Ilic also logged a score of 36.0 for her inward 1½ somersault pike.

A group of three more Kenyon divers finished not too far off from Ilic. Claire Fergusson, also a senior, posted a final score of 334.55 and claimed 20th place. Naomi Kennel, a junior, posted a 328.85 for 21st place and Lucy Cassell-Kelley, a first-year, earned a 326.70, which was good for 22nd place.

Three more divers rounded out the day for the Owls. Sophomore Bryn Tiernan finished in 25th place with a score of 316.55, first-year Olive O'Dorisio took 27th place with a score of 311.25 and her classmate Brooke Heis recorded a score of 283.05 for a 29th-place finish.

The Kenyon divers will get right back at it tomorrow when the three-meter competition gets underway at 3:15 p.m.
