Owls sweep Cowgirls for first win out West

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Kenyon College women's tennis team added an extra match amidst the team's tough California schedule, taking on Hardin-Simmons University from Albilene, Texas in a neutral site contest on Sunday afternoon in Claremont, California.

The Owls dominated the match from the opening serve, sweeping the doubles matches 3-0 and the singles matches 6-0 to secure the shutout victory.

Kenyon (2-3) had its best doubles start of the trip, going undefeated in the opening portion of the match. Eleni Lazaridou and Lalasa Nagireddy quickly dispatched the Cowgirls No. 2 duo in 37 minutes by a score of 8-0. Ten minutes later, both the No. 1 and No. 3 matches came back winners for the Owls. In the No. 1 slot, Eleni Dakos and Allaire Berl topped Hardin-Simmons' (4-5) No. 1 team 8-3, while Madeline Chappars and Shadia Amado Aguad took down the No. 3 pairing 8-3. The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead, and the momentum did not stall in singles.

The No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches were the first to finish up, and each saw Kenyon come up victorious in straight sets. In the No. 6 match, Chappars bested her opponent 6-1 and 6-0, while Nagireddy won in the No. 5 match in the exact same fashion. After a dominant finish in the No. 1 doubles match, Dakos did not concede a single game in the No. 4 singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0 to put Kenyon up 6-0 with three matches still in play.

Amado Aguad followed suit in the No. 3 singles pairing, winning 6-1, 6-4. Berl added a 6-2, 6-0 finish in the No. 2 match. The final match to finish was No. 1, where Lazaridou needed extra games in both sets, but she eventually finished off the match, winning 7-5, 7-5 to lock up the 9-0 win.

It's the Owls first sweep of the season, and the team's first win in California. Kenyon's record moves to 2-3 on the season, and the team will conclude its California trip on Tuesday, March 12 against No. 12 Sewanee at 2:00 pm EST (11:00 am PST) from Malibu, California.
