Five Owls turn in hat tricks to top Tigers

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team hosted Wittenberg University on a rainy Wednesday afternoon from The Field at Benson Bowl for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup.

The Owls took control from the opening draw and never let the Tigers back, as Kate Lengel, Mallory Brophy, Spencer Kirsch, Alex Tiatia, and Ella Rigoli each fired three goals or more to propel the team to its first conference win 23-3.

Lengel led the team and tied her career high with six goals while setting a career best in assists (3) and points (9). She scored her hat trick in the first 15 minutes, netting the third, sixth, and seventh goals as Kenyon (5-5, 1-1 NCAC) was up 8-0 after one.

Wittenberg (6-6, 0-2 NCAC) opened the second with the team's first goal, but Kenyon fired seven of the last nine to end the half up 15-3, as Lengel added two more while Rigoli, Brophy, Tiatia, and Kirsch each sat at two goals apiece.

In the second half, they all would go on to finish their respective hat tricks, as Brophy ended with four and one assist. Also finding the net in the final 30 minutes were Lily Mason, Ashley Quinn, Ali Hatfield, and Ashleigh Dixon to set the 23-3 final.

As a team, the Owls' offense set a season-high in shots on goal (36) while the defensive unit had season-best marks for caused turnovers (13). In goal, Nola Garand made three saves in the first half while Meagan Lacombe came in for the second and made one.

Kenyon moves to 5-5 on the season, and picks up its first NCAC win of 2024, improving to 1-1. The Owls will take the weekend off before traveling to Wooster, Ohio to take on The College of Wooster Fighting Scots in another conference test on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 pm.
