Owls shut out Bishops in non-conference test

DELAWARE, Ohio – Although the Kenyon College baseball team has already played Ohio Wesleyan twice this season, topping the Battling Bishops both times in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contests, the Owls traveled back to Littick Field on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference game.

Kenyon continued its dominance of Ohio Wesleyan, as six different pitchers combined for a shutout, while an eleven-hit outing on offense saw the Owls take home a 10-0 winner.

Jackson Yelland got the start for Kenyon and dealt two strikeouts and one hit in his two innings of work. In the top of the second, the Owls offense added its first three runs, as Ben Zimmerman and senior Ben Nash combined for three RBIs on two singles.

The Owls pitching staff continued its strong outing, as Liam Rosengren pitched the third and fourth innings, giving up no hits and sending down one strikeout. Kenyon poured on five more runs in the fifth inning, as Malcolm Gaynor's single brought two more runs home to start. Nash batted in his team-high third and fourth RBIs of the day on a single three batters later to make it 7-0, and Jonah Feinberg reached home on a fielder's choice to make it 8-0.

Four different Owls were on the bump for the final three innings, and they all continued the shutout pitching day. Andrew Catron saw one inning, Dillon Cleary went for 1.2, while Colin Shue and Joseph Haugh each pitched 0.2. Together, they combined for three strikeouts and three hits.

Parker Gibbons homered in the top of the eight, sending a two-run shot to right field to put the finishing touches on the 10-0 win.

On the day, Nash led the offense with a career-high tying three hits and a career-high four RBIs in the DH spot. Cleary and Yelland headlined the pitching group effort, each recording two strikeouts and one hit.

Kenyon's record improves to 15-6 overall and remains 2-2 in the NCAC. The Owls return to their conference schedule on Tuesday, April 9 to face The College of Wooster for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm from Wooster, Ohio.
