Owls take out Tigers for third win in five days

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team played its third dual in five days when they went to face Wittenberg University on Sunday. The Owls kept rolling over their busy week, racking up a third straight win over a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) foe when they took out the hosting Tigers by a score of 9-0.

No. 35-ranked Kenyon won 96 of 119 games against the Tigers and improved to 8-6 (3-0 NCAC) this season after posting their fifth 9-0 sweep over the Owls' last six outings. Wittenberg fell to 9-4 overall and is still looking for their first NCAC win after dropping their first two conference contests.

The Owls swept all nine matches, securing three doubles victories and six straight-set singles victories. Wittenberg's best showing came in the No. 1 doubles match, but Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl took care of business with an 8-5 win. The Owls rounded out the doubles sweep with a pair of 8-3 victories in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches.

In singles, Shadia Amado Aguad posted the best result, a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 3 match. Three Owls came close to matching the feat as Lazaridou, Lalasa Nagireddy, and Madeline Chappars conceded just one game across their straight-set singles victories. Lazaridou picked up her season's 10th singles win in dual matches, the second Kenyon player (Amado Aguad) to hit that mark thus far.

Berl won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 match, and Eleni Dakos prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 to close the book on singles. Ana Brand was the other Kenyon player to pick up a win as the first-year paired with Nagireddy at No. 3 doubles.

After the action-packed week, Kenyon has a bit of an extended break before looking to run its winning streak to four straight. The Owls will square off against NCAC opponent Oberlin College at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, Kenyon's final road game of the regular season.
