Owls fall on the road against Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team (1-3) faced a tough challenge on the road, falling to Hanover College (3-1) by a score of 6-0 in a non-conference matchup on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

The Owls had an early opportunity in the fourth minute when first-year forward Zoe Lipp intercepted a Hanover throw-in and passed to fellow first-year Emily Copeland. Copeland, navigating through several defenders, played a ball forward to junior Jenna Michel, who took a strong shot toward the top left corner. However, Hanover goalkeeper Emma Patterson made a key save, denying Kenyon their best chance of the first half. The look by Michel, who leads the Owls with 10 shots this season, also proved to be Kenyon's best chance of the game as the Owls were out-shot 10-1 and held without a shot on goal the rest of the way.

In the eighth minute, Kenyon's goalkeeper Ariel Kite showcased her skill with a remarkable diving save on a breakaway by a Hanover forward. Despite Kite's efforts, Hanover's offense proved too strong, scoring three goals in the first half to lead 3-0 at the break.

The Panthers continued their dominant performance after halftime. Beth Cook, who earned All-America honors last season, scored in the 47th minute and added two more goals, completing a hat trick. Hanover tacked on two more goals in the second half, finalizing the score at 6-0.

While the result was disappointing, the match served as a valuable test for the Owls. Kenyon will look to bounce back as they prepare for their next home game against Capital University on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. With the conference schedule set to begin on October 5th, the Owls have time to regroup and refine their game.
