Kenyon falls to Navy, Princeton in DI double-dual

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team got the new year started with a trip to the East Coast this weekend for a double-dual against Princeton University and the United States Naval Academy, both NCAA Division I institutions.

Although the Owls amassed several top-five finishes over the two-day, 32 event meet, the team fell short against Navy 285-to-66 and 290-to-61 against Princeton.

Day one's events were headlined by junior Djordje Dragojlovic, who earned two top-five finishes on Friday night's 17 event slate. Individually, he took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in a 49.36 time. He also joined up with first-years Arjunveer Gupta, Spencer Stluka and sophomore Peter Dunson for the Kenyon 'A' team in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 1:22.80 and taking fifth overall.

Ethan Manske had a strong opening night, narrowly missing out on the top-five in the 400-yard individual medley with a 3:55.46 time and taking sixth. That finish is not his best of the season in the event, but was good enough for an NCAA 'B' cut. He captured another 'B' cut and a top-five finish in the 200-yard butterfly, as his 1:48.59 time was his season best and the fastest out of any Kenyon swimmer this year.

The best finish on night one for the Owls came by Noel Tumbasz, who clocked in a 55.37 in the 100-yard breaststroke to take fourth.

Three more top-five finishes awaited Kenyon on day two, as the Owls 'A' team of Tumbasz, Dunson, Charlie Green, and Roman Savage combined for a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing at 1:30.74.

Kirill Sidorko swam in just one event for the weekend but picked up a top-five finish, taking fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a speedy 2:01.64 time.

Green backed up his performance in the relay with Kenyon's highest individual finish of the dual, taking third in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:46.31 time. The swim is his collegiate best and gave him an NCAA 'B' Cut in the process.

On the boards, James Lackner was the only competitor for the Owls and took eighth in both the one-meter and three-meter events. On Friday's one-meter dive, he finished with 198.05 points. For Saturday's three-meter board, he came back with a score of 201.70.

The Owls will have some time off before their next competition, as the team will host the NCAA Division I Miami University RedHawks for the team's Senior Day meet beginning at 1 p.m. on January 31 from Gambier.
