Owls steady on the boards at Clarion

CLARION, Pa. – The Kenyon College diving team continued its early-season competition this weekend at a pair of events hosted by Clarion University of Pennsylvania, taking on primarily Division II competition at the Don Leas Diving Invitational on Friday and the Clarion Diving Fall Classic on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Nadia Milovich paced the Owls in Friday's Don Leas Diving Invitational, earning a fifth-place finish in the Women's 1-Meter Championship with a score of 362.75 in a 13-diver field. Her best effort came on her fifth dive, a Back 1 Somersault 1 ½ Twist Free, that scored a 41.40. Senior Bryn Tiernan and Sophomore Jael Cohn rounded out the lineup, finishing 12th and 13th with scores of 282.35 and 282.20, respectively.
 
In the Women's 3-meter Championship, which featured seven divers, Milovich once again led Kenyon with another fifth-place finish, posting a 405.15. Cohn followed close behind in sixth (311.00), while Tiernan took seventh (290.65), as Clarion divers swept the top four spots.
 
Action continued Saturday at the Clarion Diving Fall Classic, where the Owls returned to the boards against a deep 19-diver field. Milovich took the charge for Kenyon once again with a seventh-place finish in the 1-meter Championship, totaling 201.60 points. Her best dive came on her final attempt, a Back 1 Somersault 2 ½ Twist Free, that earned a 40.50. Junior Lucy Cassell-Kelley followed with a 15th-place finish (162.75), highlighted by a 38.50 score on her fifth dive, the Inward 1 ½ Somersault Tuck. Chon (143.85) and Tiernan (140.75) placed 17th and 18th.
 
In the day's 3-Meter Championship, Milovich finished yet again in seventh with a score of 209.10, highlighted by a 43.20 on her second dive, the Back 1 ½ Somersault Straight. Cassell-Kelley placed 13th (179.35) with a solid 36.75 on her Forward 1 ½ Somersault 1 Twist Freed, followed by Cohn (146.20) and Tiernan (132.90) in 18th and 19th. 
 
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, October 18th, when the swim and dive team hosts John Carroll University for their home and conference opener.
