Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late goal helps Owls draw with Blue Streaks

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's soccer team found itself in a 1-0 hole approaching full time on Saturday afternoon's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) contest against John Carroll from Mavec Field, each team vying for valuable position in the conference table.

Thanks to a goal in the 85th minute from senior Isaac Cortez, the Owls were able to find the equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw.

Before the game, Kenyon players and fans honored the 2025-2026 senior class, which included Robbie Stroebel, James Paden, Miko Warshaw, Joaquin Sanchez-Korenfeld and Cortez.

Cortez' goal came after 40 minutes of what was dominant soccer by the Owls in the second half. In the final 45, the team outshot the Blue Streaks 9-1 and had a 4-1 edge in corners, desperately trying to find the tying tally.

After possessing the ball deep in the Kenyon offensive zone, Lucas de Alarcon drove the net near the end line and sent a pass to the middle, which ricocheted off of a John Carroll defender and right to an uncovered Cortez, who played it with his chest and fired a rocket into the bottom right corner of the net. It was his second goal of the season and ninth point, tying him for the team high.

Back in the first half, both teams had excellent chances to score, with the home team holding a 7-to-6 advantage in shots with two shots on goal apiece. The Blue Streaks were able to put the first score on the board right before halftime, scoring in the 45th minute. A John Carroll forward jumped right in front of a clearance attempt, which took a strange bounce and glanced off the crossbar and in, setting up for the dramatic second half.

For the game, de Alarcon led the way in shots with four, while Danny Kankam had three and one on goal. On the other end of the field, Dominic Pratt made one save on the afternoon.

Kenyon's record moves to 4-3-6 and 0-2-2 in conference. Next up, the Owls will host the Wabash College Little Giants on Tuesday, October 21 at 3:30 p.m. from Gambier.
