GAMBIER, Ohio -- In their most recent North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) clash, the Kenyon College women's soccer team defeated Oberlin College 2-0, further improving their chances to secure the top position in the conference standings.
The Owls broke the seal in the 68th minute when Sophomore
Addilyn Tober capitalized on a defensive miscue by Oberlin, slotting home a low shot to give Kenyon a 1-nil lead. Just a minute and some change later, sophomore
Holly Byun doubled the advantage with a composed finish into the left corner off a beautiful assist from seniorÂ
Brooke Heis. With the goal, Byun secured her third of the season and Heis earned her second assist of the year.
With goalkeeper
Ariel Kite recording her eighth shutout of the year, Kenyon's defense was unrelenting throughout the game, giving Oberlin only a few shots. The Owls' defense has allowed just four goals over their last 15 games and now secures their 11th shutout of the season, a single-season program record, further enhancing their standing as one of the NCAC's best defensive units.
Oberlin had trouble establishing an offensive rhythm and only managed a few shots that were on target, both of which Kite stopped. In the first half, the Yeowomen had their finest opportunity, but the Kenyon goalie easily stopped it.
With this win, Kenyon moves up in the NCAC standings with ten points and improves their total record to 9-2-4. Oberlin, on the other hand, dropped to 3-8-4 overall and, with just one point, is still in the bottom part of the conference.
The Owls will look to maintain their success on the road when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday, October 25th, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
