Owls find the top five at Wabash Fall Invite

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Kenyon College men's golf team teed it up in the penultimate tournament of the fall season to start the week, competing in the Wabash College Fall Invitational from Broadmoor Country Club.

Driven by three top-25 performances, the Owls finished at three over par after 54 holes, good enough for fifth place out of 18 teams, marking the squad's first top five finish for the autumn.

First-year Andrew Hahn led the way for Kenyon on the tournament, finishing at even par. On Monday's first two rounds, he shot the same score on both nines each round, firing a 35 on the back nine and a 37 on the front to finish at 72 at the 6,094-yard track. In each 18, he made five birdies, three bogeys and one double bogey while managing to make a four on 75% of the par fives, albeit a different combination each round.

His final round on Tuesday was less variable than his first two, carding two birdies and two bogeys for a 36 on both sides. For the tournament, he tied for eight in par five scoring (4.42) and birdies (12), while finishing at 14th on the individual leaderboard out of 96 golfers.

Connor Gray continued his success for the Owls, taking second on the team for the tournament at one over par. He opened up with a one over par 73 in Monday's first round, and came back with a 75 in the second 18, holing five and three birdies, respectively.

In the third round, he carded the team's lowest score of the tournament, finishing at a three under 69. He made just one bogey and drained four birdies en route to a 15th place finish individually.

Rounding out Kenyon's top-25 finishers was Adrian Jordan, who ended after 54 holes just one stroke behind Gray at two over par and 19th on the individual leaderboard. After a 75 in the opening round with two birdies and five bogeys, Jordan came back with his best round of the tournament in Monday's second 18, shooting a one under 71 with four birdies. He poured in four more in the third round, finishing at a 72. He also finished tied for second in par three scoring, averaging a 2.92 for the tournament.

Junior Jaiden Koonar, who competed as an independent, finished fourth on the Owls' individual leaderboard, ending at +3. He opened Monday with a 76, but charged back with two stellar rounds of 71 and 72, making four birdies on his second 18 and five in his third. He ended the tournament in 23rd, but led the field in par three scoring at 2.82.

Rafael Frias IV slotted into fifth on the Owls chart, finishing the tournament at 27th with a four over par showing. His best round was his second, where he made a team high six birdies in a single round for a one under 71. He added four more in the first round en route to a 74  and finished with a 75 (+3). Frias finished seventh in the field in par four scoring, which he scored a perfect even par for the three rounds.

After leading Kenyon in the previous two events, Jonathan Oakes rounded out the rotation, finishing at five over par and 28th on the individual leaderboard. Oakes opened up with a 73 despite five birdies in round one. He came back with three more birdies in round two, resulting in another 73. His 75 in the third round was highlighted by an eagle on the 374-yard par four 16th hole.

As a team, the Owls tied for the lead in the field for par three scoring, averaging 3.20, and finished top five in par four (4.16) and par five (4.60) scoring averages. They also made 53 birdies, good enough for fourth of 18 teams, as well as 157 pars which slotted them fifth.

Emory took home the top score, shooting 30 under par as a team. Carnegie Mellon finished at 18 under par, while Illinois Wesleyan's two teams shot five under and two under to end in third and fourth.

Kenyon will conclude its 2025 fall season next week, where the team will compete in the Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club hosted by Carnegie Mellon in Ligonier, Pennsylvania on October 13-14.
