Dragojlovic kicks off Invitational with record swim

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Thursday, the opening day of the annual three-day Total Performance Invitational, the host Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team chalked up two event wins, posted 521 team points, and jumped to the top of the standings.

Trailing Kenyon, in second place, is Carnegie Mellon University with 396.5 points. West Chester University holds down third place with 356 points, while Hope College and SUNY Geneseo are tied for fourth with scores of 263. Rounding out the seven-team standings are Case Western Reserve University (234.5) and Lindsey Wilson University (140).

Leading the way for the Owls during the opening day, was senior sprinter Djordje Dragojlovic, who put on a show in the 50-yard freestyle. In the morning preliminary heats, Dragojlovic posted a winning time of 19.80, which was just a few hundredths shy of the pool and meet records. When he returned for the evening finals session, Dragojlovic claimed the event title with a time of 19.53. That mark set both the pool and meet records. The previous pool record was 19.73 set in 2022 by Camilo Marrugo from the University of Findlay and the previous meet record was 19.77 set in 2015 by Eric Schultz from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dragojlovic's time in that 50-yard freestyle race was also a personal record and cleared the NCAA's cut (19.56) for automatic entry into the 2025-26 Division III Championship meet.

In the same event, Kenyon junior Peter Dunson added a fifth-place finish for Owls by clocking in at 20.31, breaking his previous personal record of 20.39.

There were only two other individual events on Thursday's schedule. In the 500-yard freestyle, Kenyon's top finisher was Roman Savage, a junior who clocked in at 4:26.93 for a third-place showing, as well as a personal-best time. Senior Teo Jaworski was not far behind. He took fifth place in a time of 4:30.97. Both those times cleared the NCAA 'B' cut.

The other individual event was the 200-yard individual medley. Kenyon did not log a top-five finish in that race, but senior Ethan Manske completed the course in 1:50.87 for sixth place.

Back at the beginning of the evening session, Kenyon's 200-yard freestyle relay team, which included Dragojlovic and Dunson, claimed third place with a season-best time of 1:19.83. Joining those two on the relay were sophomores Spencer Stluka and Neil Abrahamson.

In the evening-ending 400-yard medley relay, the Owls capped things off with another win. Kenyon's quartet of Dragojlovic, Savage, Kristof Szappanos, and Noel Tumbasz posted the top time of 3:13.40, which was another season best for the team.

Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, a couple of Kenyon divers took part in the House of Champions Invitational. Thursday saw the 1-meter competition with first-year Chase Smith claiming 17th place with a score of 232.25. Sophomore James Lackner took 21st with a score of 207.90.
