Owls overwhelm OWU in NCAC dual meet

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Back in the water after a nearly three-week break from competition, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team coasted to a 183-41 victory over the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops on Friday night.

Swimming events for the North Coast Athletic Conference dual meet were held at Ohio Wesleyan, while the diving events were held at Kenyon.

Of the nine individual events contested, Kenyon swimmers and divers won eight of them. Junior Kate Bogan highlighted the Owls' results by doubling up on wins. In the early portion of the meet, she won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.49 and, near the end of the meet, she was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:06.54.


Other freestyle races won by the Owls included the 100-, 200-, and 500-yard events. Norah Cullicott, a junior, took the 100 in 55.34. Nora Lee Brown, a sophomore, won the 200 in 1:55.82, and Kate Dunagan, a first-year, was fastest in the 500, posting a winning time of 5:16.93.


Kenyon's three other swimming wins came from junior Ashlyn Widmer with a time of 2:12.06 in the 200-yard individual medley, senior Gwen Eisenbeis with a time of 57.23 in the 100-yard butterfly, and from senior Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault with a time of 58.34 in the 100-yard backstroke.


In relay events, Kenyon opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Eisenbeis and Torrecillas-Jouault joined Jean Cook and Molly Haag to clock in at 1:46.99. At the end of the meet, it was Cullicott, Sofia Giordano, Deniz Guvenc, and Nora Kortuem who combined to ring up a winning time of 3:39.03 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 


Back in Gambier, two Kenyon divers split wins on the diving boards. Sophomore Nadia Milovich posted a winning score of 445.13 during the one-meter competition, and then junior Lucy Cassell-Kelley went on to victory in the three-meter competition, racking up a score of 265.28.


The Owls will jump right back in the pool tomorrow for another conference dual meet, this one at Denison University beginning at 10 a.m.
