Kenyon coasts in dual-meet win over OWU

GAMBIER, Ohio -- In its last competition of the calendar year, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team coasted to a 153-40 dual-meet victory against Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday at Steen Aquatic Center.

With many swimmers competing in races that were not their primary strokes, the Owls still managed to rack up a dozen event wins.

Seniors Gwen Eisenbeis and Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault led the way for the Kenyon team, both collecting a pair of wins. In the meet's first scored event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, Eisenbeis and Torrecillas-Jouault paired up with Kelsey Van Eldik and Maggie Grespin to produce a winning time of 1:41.44.

On their own, Eisenbeis took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 23.75, while Torrecillas-Jouault won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.61.

Another Kenyon senior, Molly Haag, swam uncontested in the 200-yard butterfly, but her 2:05.89 was a career best. After that, junior Sofia Giordano won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.03, just clipping her previous career best of 53.08.

Sophomore Nora Lee Brown added another Kenyon win in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking first place in a time of 1:06.91. One event before that, first-year Cecilia Woare won the 100-yard backstroke, stopping the clock at 58.99.

Kenyon's final two swimming event wins came from Van Eldik, a sophomore, and senior Kate Bogan. Van Eldik joined Eisenbeis and Torrecillas-Jouault as a multi-event winner, by nailing down first place in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 56.11. Bogan then placed first in the 100-yard individual medley, clocking in at 58.98.

In the diving well, Kenyon junior Lucy Cassell-Kelley was the top performer on the one-meter board. She scored a 246.75, narrowly holding off teammate Nadia Milovich, who scored a 244.73. On the three-meter board, it was Milovich, a sophomore, who came through with the win, racking up a final score of 268.89.

The competition will be a bit stiffer in Kenyon's next meet, which will take place January 9-10 at Navy. The Owls will compete against the host Midshipmen, as well as against Princeton University and the University of Delaware.
