Owls topple Tartans on the road

PITTSBURGH, Penn. – The Kenyon College men's tennis team hit the road for the first time in 2025, facing off against No. 20 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday evening in a battle of top-five ranked teams in NCAA's Region V and two teams tied for 20th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) rankings.

The Owls took care of business in doubles and picked up impressive wins in singles, coasting to a 5-2 win to remain unbeaten this year.

The No. 2 doubles flight was the first to finish, as Jay Kedar Dixit and Josh Finkle teamed up for a 6-3 winner. Despite dropping the No. 1 flight 2-6, Rishil Kondapaneni and Eric Zhang battled to a 6-4 victory in the third slot, with all matches finishing up in just shy of 40 minutes.

Paulo Pocasangre Kreling bounced back in the No. 1 singles match against the fourth-ranked singles player in NCAA Division III, eking out a 7(7)-6(4) victory in the first set and coming back with a dominant 6-3 win in the second. Alejandro Gonzalez's No. 3 flight also went to a tiebreak in the first set, but it did not go his way, falling 7(7)-6(5) and then 6-4 in the second.

Eric Zhang's match in the fifth flight wrapped up in the shortest amount of time, as the senior took care of business in just 70 minutes, bringing in a 6-4, 6-3 win. Juozas Cioladis whipped up a win just 20 minutes later in the fourth flight, taking home a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

This highlight of the match was Konapaneni's No. 2 flight match against the 21st ranked singles player in NCAA Division III, in which the senior dropped the first set 6-3. However, he rallied back for a shutout 6-0 second set and came away with a win 6-3 in the third after two hours.

Finally, Rakkan Audeh's sixth flight match was the last to finish in two hours and seven minutes. He fell in the first set 6-1 but came back for a 6-1 winner in the second. Despite losing the third set 7-5, the Owls had already wrapped up the 5-2 win.

For players who competed in both singles and doubles matches, Kondapaneni and Zhang each turned in 2-0 undefeated outings, while Pocasangre Kreling finished 1-1.

Kenyon will start its North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) slate next week, traveling to Wabash to take on the Little Giants at 4:00 pm from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
