Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Owls can’t muster comeback against Maroons

GAMBIER, Ohio – After a heroic victory to open the 2025 regular season, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team hosted No. 11 Roanoke College on Saturday afternoon from The Field at Benson Bowl.

Despite solid performances offensively, the Owls could not keep up with the Maroons' attack, which pulled away towards the end of the third quarter to cement the 19-10 loss.

Roanoke (1-0) opened the game with three straight goals as today marked the start of its 2025 campaign, but Blythe Karras stopped the run at 6:53 in the first and netted her first points after being named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Athlete of the Week.

The Maroons quickly tacked on another three goals to go up 6-1 with 1:26 to play in the first, but Charlotte Skelly added the first goal of her career to keep Kenyon (1-1) in the mix at 6-2 after 15 minutes.

Ashley Quinn assisted on Skelly's goal and converted a free-position shot with 7:07 in the half to set the score at 8-3 after two Roanoke goals to open the second quarter. Three more goals by the Maroons to end the half would give the visitors an 11-3 lead going into the break.

After halftime, the Owls came out with the first goal and looked to have some momentum, but Roanoke was able to match every single Kenyon goal with one of their own. Quinn got things started, followed by Karras and Skelly to each move to two goals on the day, but the Maroons answered every time to keep the eight-goal advantage at 14-6 with 5:10 to play in the third.

To close the quarter, momentum began to swing further in Roanoke's favor, firing three more goals to go ahead 17-6 after 45 minutes.

Quinn added her third goal of the day in the fourth, followed by Spencer Kirsch's two tallies and one from Ashley Auerbach, but the 4-2 scoring mismatch wasn't enough to keep up with the Maroons in the end, falling 19-10.

Offensively, Quinn led the Owls attack with four points on three goals and an assist, while Karras, Kirsch, and Skelly each added two goals. On the defensive side of the ball, Nola Garand made seven saves for the day, while Meagan Lacombe stopped two in relief.

Kenyon will be back in action on March 1 to host another ranked team, this time No. 24 University of Chicago at 1:00 pm from Gambier.
