Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Kenyon can’t keep up with UChicago to end homestand

GAMBIER, Ohio – For the second weekend in a row, the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team hosted a top 25-ranked opponent at The Field at Benson Bowl. On Saturday afternoon, the team welcomed No. 22 University of Chicago in their third game of 2025.

Despite a career-best effort from senior goalkeeper Nola Garand, registering 21 saves and keeping Kenyon in the mix throughout, the Maroons were just too much to handle in the end, falling 20-8 after 60 minutes.

Lily Mason scored the first two goals for Kenyon (1-2) at the start of each quarter, as the junior first found twine with 12:55 remaining in the first quarter to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. UChicago (3-1) was able to fire off four straight goals in the opening frame, but that run was ended by Mason with 13:07 in the second quarter, setting the score 4-2.

The Maroons netted three more goals to take a 7-2 lead with 7:53 in the half, while a woman-up free position goal from Spencer Kirsch kept the Owls hanging around. The visitors struck twice more before halftime, but Mallory Brophy fired one past the keeper with 32 seconds in the half to keep the home team involved at 9-4. Garand added 11 saves in the first half to keep Kenyon not far behind.

After the break, UChicago began to pull away, scoring four straight goals in the third quarter taking up almost 13 minutes of game time. It wasn't until Charlotte Skelly scored a woman-up goal with 1:49 to play in the third that the run briefly stopped.

Heading into the fourth, the Owls had a strong stretch of eight minutes, outscoring the Maroons 3-2. Blythe Karras scored her first goal of the game followed by tallies from Mason and Alex Tiatia in the span of 20 seconds to set the score 15-8 with 7:16 remaining. However, UChicago quelled any hopes of a comeback, firing five straight goals to finish the 20-8 victory.

Karras and Mason led the way with three points each, as Karras' came from a goal and two assists while Mason's came along with her seventh career hat trick. Ashley Quinn added two assists for second on the team in total points, while the other goal scorers all tied with one point.

Lia Stewart led the defensive efforts with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Emma Sage was not far behind with three ground balls and one caused turnover backing up Garand's career day.

After three home games to start the 2025 season, the Owls will embark on a three game road trip, first facing off against Montclair State University on Thursday, March 6 at 3:00 pm from Montclair, New Jersey.
