Kenyon women run shutout streak to five

ORLANDO, Fla. -- For the fifth consecutive match, the Kenyon College Owls posted a 7-0 victory. The team's latest shutout came Tuesday afternoon, when the Owls downed the Fords of Haverford College.

Maggie Shope and Lalasa Nagireddy set the tone from the start for Kenyon, as the duo crafted a 6-0 win over Haverford's Caroline Gay and Erika Phanord in the No. 3 doubles match. At No. 1, Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime dropped just one game in their victory, while at No. 2 doubles, Clare Hudson and Shadia Amado Aguad posted a 6-4 win over Abhishree Menon and Mallika Reddy.

With the doubles point in hand, the Owls went into singles play and saw Nouaime make quick work of Phanord, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 4 match. About five minutes later, Lazaridou finished her match at No. 1, claiming a spotless 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rachael Fitzgerald.

That put Kenyon up 3-0 and needing just one more singles win to clinch. That important point was scored by Hudson, who defeated Reddy, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 3 match.

Kenyon then finished off the shutout with singles wins from Amado Aguad at No. 2, Nagireddy at No. 5, and Elizabeth Ackermann at No. 6.

The Owls (6-3) have one more spring break match on tap before returning to campus. That match will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against No. 26-ranked Swarthmore College.
