GAMBIER, Ohio -- On Tuesday, College Sports Communicators (CSC) released the organization's 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, and a pair of Kenyon College Owls earned spots on the squad. Kenyon's awardees included Gefen Bar-Cohen, who secured the honor for a third straight season, and Murathan Kocaman, who is a first-time honoree.
To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete had to be a key contributor who participated in at least 90 percent of the team's competitions or started 66 percent of those competitions. The student-athlete had to be on the team's active roster for at least two years and, most importantly, had to possess at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Each NCAA Division III institution was allotted a maximum of four nominations for the award.
Bar-Cohen bagged another award to close out his career, adding to an impressive resume over his time in Gambier. The philosophy major has qualified for CSC Academic All-District distinction in each of the three seasons he's been eligible, proving his commitment on and off the court. This year, Bar-Cohen started all 24 of the games in which he played, leading the Owls in both points (16.8) and rebounds (6.3) per game. His scoring output was a career-high mark that ranked second in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), and he earned his third straight All-NCAC award after the season, his first time on the All-NCAC Second Team. The Princeton, New Jersey, native exits the program with career numbers that include 1,247 points and 532 rebounds to go along with 132 assists, 61 steals, and 55 blocks.
Kocaman, who has yet to declare a major, earned the CSC Academic All-District award in the first season in which the sophomore was eligible to receive the honor. The big man was one of just four Owls to play 24 or more games this season, and he played 12.3 minutes per night off the bench while adding a start. Overall, the Istanbul, Turkiye, native averaged 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He twice scored eight points, including in the season's final game, to set a season-high, and his season-high on the boards was also eight.
