Owls trounce Tigers to tip off three-dual weekend

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's tennis team kicked off the first of three straight days of duals at home in Gambier against the Wittenberg University Tigers on Friday afternoon, and the Owls started their homestand with a dominant 7-0 victory. Kenyon cruised to a sweep in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup, winning 90 games while allowing the Tigers to take just three.

The win, Kenyon's second straight, propelled the No. 26-ranked Owls to a 10-5 overall record and kept the reigning NCAC Champions unbeaten in three conference clashes. On the other side, Wittenberg remained winless, falling to 0-12 (0-3 NCAC).

The Owls didn't need much time to get on the board as Sophia Carling and Elizabeth Ackermann whipped up a 6-0 sweep in about 15 minutes at No. 3 doubles. A few minutes later, Kenyon clinched the doubles point with wins in the top two flights. Shadia Amado Aguad and Clare Hudson picked up their team-leading 10th doubles victory, a 6-0 sweep at No. 1, while Ana Brand and Maggie Shope secured a 6-1 win at No. 2.

It was more of the same in singles as the Owls orchestrated 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in four of the six matchups. Amado Aguad and Hudson handled business with shutouts at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, with Hudson landing the team's first singles win. The first-year's triumph at No. 2 was the highest flight she's played this season.

Hana Nouaime notched her season's first No. 3 singles victory of the season, winning 6-0, 6-1, clinching the dual with Kenyon's fourth point. The Owls secured two more shutouts at Nos. 4 and 5 behind the strength of Ackermann and Shope. Ackermann's victory marked her season's first win in the No. 4 spot and ran her singles winning streak to a team-high five straight, while Shope improved to 2-1 at No. 5. Lauren Dell'Acqua locked down the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-0, earning a victory in the sophomore's first action of the season.

Kenyon will be back at it in less than 24 hours as the Owls welcome Ohio Wesleyan University to the Jasper Tennis Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. The dual marks the team's Senior Day as the Owls will celebrate their sole senior, Lalasa Nagireddy.
