Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Scots spoil senior day, Owls drop first NCAC tilt

GAMBIER, Ohio – After starting the North Coast Athletic Conference schedule 4-0, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team returned to The Field at Benson Bowl to host The College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon and celebrate the 2025 senior class.

The Scots captured the lead early and never let it go, capitalizing on a five-goal second quarter to deal the Owls their first conference loss of the season 13-8.

Wooster got on the board first with two quick tallies in the first three minutes of play, taking a 2-0 lead. Kenyon fired back with two of its own to tie the game, as Tanner Lewis lit the lamp first with an assist from Rollins Heath at 11:35. Gavin Gumucio netted the early equalizer three minutes later. The visitors added two more to end the first 15 minutes up 4-2.

The second quarter is where the Scots took firm control, outsourcing the Owls 5-1. Kenyon's lone tally came at 8:53, where Hill Carter rocketed one into the cage. Wooster took a 9-3 lead to halftime.

Kenyon looked to come out of the break with momentum, but Wooster kept the energy on their side by matching each goal on the other end. Gumucio scored his second of the game with an assist from Thomas Nelson, while Nathan Kissela got involved near the end of the third assisted by Heath. The 11-5 deficit for the Owls set up what needed to be a special final frame.

The Scots struck first in the fourth to open up their biggest lead of the game at 13-5. The Owls tried to spark a comeback with three goals in the last three minutes from Heath, Josh Temple, and David Chintala, but they ran out of time, falling 13-8 in the end.

Before the game, players and fans honored the 2025 senior class, which includes Ryan Matarese, Kyle Becker, Jack Joyce, Alden Heske, Hill Carter, Thomas Nelson, Cameron Longway, Josh Temple, Nathan Kissela, and Rollins Heath

Heath led the team with four points on a goal and three assists. Nelson turned in a good day on the faceoff dot, recording a 19-of-24 (79.1 percent) mark and hauling in 13 ground balls. Adam Hall made 16 saves in cage.

Next up, Kenyon will host Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday, April 15 at 4:00 pm.
