Kenyon blanks Wooster, claims conference crown

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The No. 22-ranked Kenyon College women's tennis team (13-5, 6-0 NCAC) secured its third consecutive, and 22nd overall, North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season championship on Friday afternoon, sweeping The College of Wooster (5-10, 1-4 NCAC) by a 7-0 count.

The victory extends the Owls' remarkable conference winning streak to 38 consecutive regular-season NCAC matches, a run that dates back to the 2015-16 season.

Playing on the road in their final conference match of the regular season, the Owls dominated from start to finish. In doubles play, Kenyon's top duo of Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime set the tone with a commanding 6-0 victory. The Owls' other two doubles pairing did the same. The No. 2 team of Shadia Amado Aguad and Clare Hudson pitched a 6-0 shutout and the No. 3 duo of Ana Brand and Lalasa Nagireddy completed the doubles sweep with another impressive 6-0 win.

The singles competition showcased Kenyon's depth and talent across the lineup. Brand moved up to the No. 1 spot and led the way with a decisive 6-2, 6-4 victory over Janaki Jagannathan. Nagireddy was equally impressive at No. 2, blanking Elyse Errington 6-0, 6-0. Elizabeth Ackermann continued the dominance at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win against Jade Adkins.

Maggie Shope dropped just two games at No. 4 singles, defeating Kamila Kadirova 6-1, 6-1, while Sophia Carling shutout Willow Hernishin 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Rounding out the singles sweep, Madeline Chappars played at No. 6 and led by a score of 5-0 before her opponent, Mia Smith, retired from the match.

With the conference regular season now complete, the Owls have positioned themselves as the No. 1 seed and host of the upcoming six-team NCAC Tournament, which will be held next weekend.

Before they think about postseason, the Owls will face their final regular-season challenge on Sunday, when they host No. 8-ranked Carnegie Mellon University in a non-conference match with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
