Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Kenyon drops DePauw, advances to face Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- With Saturday's 5-0 win over DePauw University in the semifinal round of the 2025 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Men's Tennis Tournament, the Kenyon College Owls advance to the conference's championship match to face rival Denison University.

That championship match, between the tournament's No. 2 seed Kenyon and No. 1 seed Denison, will take place Sunday at noon on Denison's campus. The matchup will mark the sixth straight time these two teams battle in the NCAC final with the winner gaining the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Carving its path to the final, the Owls did not waver against DePauw. Earlier in the year, DePauw gave Kenyon a close match, but the Owls rallied to pull out a 4-3 win. Such was not the case Saturday, as the Owls did not relinquish a single point to the Tigers.

The Owls first win against DePauw came from the No. 3 doubles team of Gianluca Bocanegra and Rishil Kondapaneni, who posted a 6-3 score against DePauw's tandem of Jacob Louiselle and Diego Marquez Calderon. At No. 2, Kenyon sealed the doubles team point when Josh Finkle and Eric Zhang defeated DePauw's Scott Anderson and Roee Sela by a 6-4 score.

Needing just three points out of the six singles matches, Kenyon got them in a hurry. The first came from Juozas Cioladis, who whipped through his No. 4 match by burying Will Cramer, 6-0, 6-0. About 10 minutes later, Alejandro Gonzalez turned in a 6-2, 6-0 win against Anderson in the No. 2 match.

After that, the Owls got the clinching point from Kondapaneni, who knocked off Samuele Pia, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 match.

Because the two players competing at the No. 1 singles spot were regionally ranked, they played out that match to make the final team score 5-0. Kenyon's Paulo Pocasangre Kreling, regionally ranked at No. 7, chalked up that win by a 1-6, 7-6 (11-9), 1-0 (10-5) score over Finley Buelte, who was regionally ranked at No. 12.

Kenyon, as a team, is nationally ranked at No. 13 and has an updated record of 18-5. Sunday, the Owls will go up against the host Big Red, who are nationally ranked at No. 2 and have a record of 22-2. The Big Red won Saturday's other semifinal game, 4-0, against Wabash College.
