Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Copeland scores twice, Owls earn second win

BEREA, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's soccer team kicked off its second road contest of the young 2025 season on Sunday afternoon, heading to northeast Ohio to take on Baldwin Wallace.

For the second game in a row, the Owls controlled both sides of the ball and cruised to a 2-0 victory, as Emily Copeland diced up the Yellow Jacket defense for two goals in the win.

Despite the zero on the scoreboard, Baldwin Wallace (0-1-1) had perhaps its best chance of the game in the fifth minute, drawing a penalty kick for senior midfielder Sydni Mudge. Mudge was soon denied on the doorstep by Ariel Kite, one of only two saves she had to make on the day.

After two solid shot attempts from Margot Kuller and Zoe Lipp, Kenyon (2-0) finally broke through. Copeland fielded a pass from Chanda Maambo near the middle of the box, and carved a shot in the top left corner for the goal.

The sophomore and former North Coast Athletic Conference newcomer of the year was not done there. In the 39th minute, Copeland again capitalized on a nice pass, this time from Hannah Schmidt, and calmly delivered a ball past the Baldwin Wallace keeper to expand the lead to two, which the Owls took to the half.

Kenyon controlled the shot advantage in the first half 9-2 and backed it up in the second half, holding the Jackets to three shots and just one on goal, which Kite dispatched swiftly. In all, the Owls tallied 14 shots for the game, 10 of which on goal. All five of Kenyon's shots in the second half hit the cage looking to grow the lead further, but the two first half tallies was all the team needed to secure its second win of 2025.

Copeland led the team with four shots on goal to go along with her pair of scores, while six other Owls combined for on-target strikes in the match.

Kenyon moves to 2-0 on the season for just the second time since 2010. Up next, the team will head back to Gambier for its home opener against Thiel College on Wednesday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m from Mavec Field.
