Kenyon falls at Wooster, preps for postseason

WOOSTER, Ohio — The Kenyon College women's soccer team battled Saturday in a pivotal match against The College of Wooster for its final game of the 2026 regular season.

With home field advantage in the first round of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament on the line, the Owls prepared to face off against the first-place Fighting Scots in an incredibly competitive match that ended in a 2-1 loss for Kenyon.

Knowing they were up against a fierce opponent, the Owls were aggressive quickly, attempting two shots in the first five minutes of play. A third shot by Maia Pasco nearly scored, but was successfully corralled by Wooster goalkeeper Lucy Carlin.

The Fighting Scots bounced back after the attempts, scoring on their first shot attempt. Annie Henegar was able to beat a defender one-on-one and fired in her shot off the right post to make it one-nil Wooster.

Possession would bounce back and forth for the rest of the first half, with the Owls applying a total of nine shot attempts before the half's end, one of which was again saved by Carlin. At the other end of the field, the Fighting Scots managed just three shots, with none on goal.

The fortitude that has defined the Owls all year, though, proved true in their final regular season match. They continued to fight and create chances, knowing an equalizer would come.

That chance came after a pass was picked up from a deflection. Fiona Dougherty then gave the Owls that needed spark with a tremendous goal to tie things up in the game's 58th minute.

Kenyon goalkeeper Lila Michael notched two saves in the second half as the Owls continued to fight, while Wooster began to apply an increase in pressure. Despite just four more shots in the second half, Wooster was able to tally the game-winner, as Bella Compton inked an unassisted goal with just 3:17 left on the game clock.

Despite the blow, Kenyon did not give up. Addilyn Tober and Dougherty both nearly scored in the match's final minute, taking shots that were saved by Carlin.

With the loss, Kenyon dropped to third place in the final NCAC standings. That makes the Owls the No. 3-seeded team in the upcoming four-team NCAC Tournament. In the semifinal road, which will take place Wednesday, the Owls will make the short trip to Denison University to tangle with the No. 2-seed Big Red.

Wooster's win gave the Fighting Scots the NCAC Championship and the No. 1 seed in the NCAC Tournament. They'll host No. 4-seeded John Carroll in Wednesday's other semifinal game.
