Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls’ perfect shutout streak stretches to six

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Kenyon College's soccer dominance, on both sides of the field, continued Saturday, as the host Owls ran their record to a perfect 6-0-0 after routing the visiting Geneva College Golden Tornadoes.

The win tied this year's Kenyon team for the best start in women's program history. The 1994 team started 6-0-0, as well. The best unbeaten run to start a season was turned in by the 1986 squad, which went 6-0-1 in its first seven contests.

Not only did the win streak continue for the Owls, but so did the shutout streak, which expanded to 540 minutes of play. While Kenyon keepers end up gaining statistical credit for the shutouts, it is the Kenyon defense that deserves the bulk of the applause. The back line has allowed just 13 shots to opponents this season (2.2 per game), and only eight of those were on goal (1.3 per game).

Offensively, the Owls have been stellar, too. With four more goals Saturday, they've out-scored their opponents by a combined 22-0 count so far this season. Those 22 goals are nearly four times the amount the 2024 Kenyon team scored all last season.

After a silent first half of play against Geneva, the Owls offense was kick-started by a goal from sophomore Zoe Lipp. Her score came off a corner kick that got booted around the box multiple times. The ball eventually fell to Lipp, who buried it in the net for her first goal of the season.

Seven minutes later, Julianna Granetzke took a pass from Claire Pruner and blasted her shot, from the right side, into the upper left corner of the Golden Tornadoes' goal. That, too, was Granetzke's first goal of the campaign.

In the game's 71st and 80th minutes, Kenyon got two more first-time goal scorers. The first of those two came from Rafaela Plasa on an assist by Sonia Butske, and the second came from Holly Byun on an assist from Sadie Krueger.

With four more goal scorers added to Kenyon's season stats, the Owls now have 11 players who, together, account for the team's 22 goals.

The Owls' lopsided win over the Golden Tornadoes was not only evident in the score, but also the shot count (34-1) and corner kick comparison (14-0).

Ariel Kite, who played roughly 78 minutes of the game, and Lila Michael, combined in net to produce another clean sheet for the Owls. Only Kite was tested with a shot on goal, which she saved.

Next up for the Kenyon women is a road game at University of Mount Union. That non-conference contest is slated for Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. start.
