Kite, back line anchor Owls in draw

Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio– The Kenyon College women's soccer team saw its six-game win streak come to a halt on Wednesday evening, but the Owls remained unbeaten after a nil-nil draw on the road against the University of Mount Union. With the result, the Owls move to 6-0-1, marking the program's best seven-game start since the 1986 opened its campaign with the same record.

The Owls dictated play from the opening whistle, pinning Mount Union in its own half for much of the first 45 minutes. Kenyon fired off eight shots in the first half alone, with Emily Copeland forcing an early save in the 11th minute and Claire Pruner testing the keeper with a dangerous attempt in the 10th. Addison Szollosi and Zoe Lipp also put chances on frame but Mount Union goalkeeper Leanne Williams stood tall, making six first-half saves to keep the scoreline even.

The Owls had no problem continuing their dominance in the second half registering another seven shots, four of which were on target. Lipp nearly broke the deadlock in the 55th and 57th with back-to-back attempts, but Williams once again denied both efforts. In the 68th minute, Copeland ripped a shot toward the bottom left corner, forcing Williams into her eighth and final save of the night.

On the other end, Kenyon's defense remained unshakable. The backline, anchored by Julianna Granetzke, Brooke Heis, and Chanda Maambo, limited the Raiders to just three total shots, only one of which was on target. Ariel Kite calmly handled that lone test in the 33rd minute, notching her sixth shutout of the season.

The Owls finished with a commanding 15-3 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Copeland led the attack with five attempts, including two on frame, while Pruner and Lipp contributed three shots apiece, each forcing a pair of saves.

The Owls will look to continue their hot streak on Sunday, September 21, as they travel to Columbus to take on Capital University at 1:00 p.m.
