COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It took eight games and a little more than 708 minutes of playing time, but the Kenyon College women's soccer team finally yielded its first goal of the 2025 season. Sunday, on the turf at Bernlohr Stadium at Capital University, the Owls allowed a goal in the 79th minute, which gave way for the host Comets to walk away with a 1-0 non-conference win.
Although Kenyon suffered its first loss of the season, it is still enjoying one of the best starts in program history. Thanks to a defense that allowed just 26 shots and one goal over eight games played, the Owls now own a 6-1-1 record, which is a massive improvement after coming off a 2024 season in which they went 1-11-2.
Capital claimed the Sunday win to move to 5-2-1 while recording its third straight shutout victory.
Sunday's contest was an even one, but Capital was able to claim the victory with a late goal from Taylor Marcum, who placed her shot into the lower left half of the Kenyon goal with just 11:19 left on the clock.
Both Kenyon and Capital tallied 10 shots throughout the game. Only two of those 10 shots for Capital were on target. Kenyon goalkeeper, Ariel Kite, saved one of those two shots on goal, but the other, Marcum's shot, got past her. Ariel, who has started all eight games for Kenyon, now has a 0.15 goals against average and seven saves.
On the other side of the field, three of Kenyon's 10 shots were on goal, with Capital goalkeeper Liv Alford making saves on all three. The Owls' shots on goal were recorded by Margot Kuller, Jenna Michel, and Anna Taggart.
Kenyon had the better chances in the first half, with seven total shots, while Capital bounced back with the edge in the second half, tallying eight shots. Overall, the Comets had the edge in corner kicks, 6-1.
With a little more than 11 minutes left on the clock, the game was ended due to poor weather.
The Owls have two more non-conference contests on their schedule. The first of those two will take place Thursday at home against Adrian College.
