WESTERVILLE, Ohio
– The Kenyon College women's soccer team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 1-1 draw against Otterbein University on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. The Owls now stand at 6-1-2 heading into North Coast Atlantic Conference play.
The Cardinals struck first in the 19th minute, when Rae Ehrbar found space and sent a curling effort into the net to give Otterbein a 1-nil lead. Kenyon responded with steady pressure, nearly equalizing seconds later when
Emily Copeland forced a diving save from Cardinal goalkeeper Ella Schwertfager.
The Owls continued to push forward and found the breakthrough near the midpoint of the second half. In the 64th minute, Kenyon earned a corner kick that bounced around the box before falling to Copeland, who calmly slotted a one-time shot that hit off the crossbar and bounced in. The goal was her team-leading sixth of the season and capped off another strong performance in which she led the Owls with four total shots, including two on target.
Kenyon nearly found the game-winner in the 85th minute when
Brooke Heis rattled the crossbar, etching the final goal-scoring opportunity of the game.
Looking at the box, Kenyon held the advantage with 13 shots, including five on target, and six corner kicks, compared to Otterbein's seven shots and two corners.
Ariel Kite finished the match with three stops on seven shots faced.
Addison Szollosi and
Jenna Michel each chipped in two shots, with Michel putting one on target.
The 1-1 draw closes out Kenyon's non-conference slate. The Owls now shift their focus to NCAC play, beginning with a home match against the College of Wooster on Saturday, October 4, at 1:00 p.m. on Mavec Field.
