Owls log several top times at Division I quad dual

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team headed to Annapolis, Maryland for the weekend to take on a trio of NCAA Division I opponents as the end of the regular season and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) championships draw near.

The Owls were able to post several top scores and collect several NCAA 'B' cuts across Friday and Saturday, despite falling to the U.S. Naval Academy 165.5-187.5, Princeton University 86-266 and the University of Delaware 149-204.

The meet's highlight performance came from Kelsey Van Eldik, who gave Kenyon its lone win of the dual, taking first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.76 time, good enough for an NCAA 'B' cut.

The Owls also logged three runner-up finishes on Friday, the first one coming in the 200 freestyle relay, where a team of Lisa Torrecillas-Jouault, Gwen Eisenbeis, Julia Mascarenhas and Kate Bogan combined for a 1:33.17 mark, another 'B' cut. Individually, Eisenbeis got a second place in the 100 backstroke, where her 54.79 time earned her a 'B' cut, while Molly Haag grinded out a 9:58.12 finish in the 1000 freestyle.

Other top times from Friday included a third place from Haag in the 200 freestyle, where she earned a 'B' cut with a 1:49.79 time. In the 400 medley relay, Eisenbeis, Van Eldik, Torrecillas-Jouault and Nora Kortuem sped to a third place finish with a 3:40.92 score, clearing the NCAA 'B' cut by nearly nine seconds. Amelia Stevenson added a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly with a 2:01.01 time and Bogan claimed fifth in the 50 freestyle at 23.72, with Stevenson scooping up a 'B' cut.

Kenyon slowed down comparatively on Saturday's schedule of events, but still managed to earn four finishes inside the top five. Van Eldik came back from her first place with a second in the 200 breaststroke, finishing at 2:15.48 and earning another 'B' cut. She later teamed up with Eisenbeis, Kortuem and Bogan for the 200 medley relay, where the team finished second at 1:41.42, claiming another 'B' cut.

Haag charged to a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle, where her 4:54.76 mark earned another NCAA 'B' cut. The team closed things out in the pool with a third place in the 400 freestyle relay, where Haag, Bogan, Torecillas-Jouault and Afsana Rawlins teamed up for a 3:24.14 score, marking the team's tenth 'B' cut of the weekend.

On the boards, Lucy Cassell-Kelley led the squad across both days, taking 9th on Saturday's one meter dive with a 222.35 score. On Friday, she amassed 205.15 points for a 13th place finish in the three meter.
