Szabo falls in first round of ITA Cup

Box Score ROME, Ga. -- Making it to the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Central Region Singles Championship a couple weeks ago, Kenyon College first-year Lora Szabo gained a spot in the prestigious ITA Cup, pitting the nation's top 16 NCAA Division III singles players against each other.

The ITA Cup bracket got underway Thursday, however, Szabo didn't have quite the zip she showed in the regional championship. In first-round play, Szabo fell 6-2, 6-2 to Tina She, of Amherst College. It was a tough draw for Szabo, as She was the tournament's No. 1-seeded player. Now a junior, She was 24-5 last season and ranked as the No. 4 singles player in NCAA Division III.

The loss brought an end to the fall-season schedule for Szabo, who now owns a 6-3 record through her first nine collegiate singles matches.
