Kenyon and DePauw draw in dramatic fashion

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team took on the DePauw University Tigers in conference play at sunny Mavec Field on Saturday afternoon. The Owls would go on to draw the Tigers by a score of 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.

The first half consisted of strong defensive play from both sides as the Owls fired only two shots on target in the first half. Maia Pasco took the first for Kenyon, firing the ball towards the top of the net, which was saved by a diving DePauw keeper to just send the ball over the net for a corner kick. The second opportunity of the half for the Owls came in the 40th minute when Skylar Helms sent a shot towards the bottom left of the net before a quick save again by DePauw.

Kenyon came out strong in the second half with Pasco taking two shots in the first ten minutes of the second half. Her teammates Georgia Yatrakis and Zoe Lipp passed out more opportunities to Emily Copeland who took two shots as well with her second on target. With Kenyon fighting hard for opportunities they finally found success in the 78th minute of the match. Mary Pietila collected the ball down the right side of the pitch and sent a huge looping shot across the net into the left pocket, putting the Gambier side up 1-nil.

With a switch to defensive play the Owls held strong. With 0:16 left on the clock, DePauw was awarded a free kick from 30 yards out. The ball was sent directly into the box and bounced until for the next ten seconds without a clear before finding the net off of a Depauw finish to level the score at 1-1.

Kenyon will conclude conference play at The College of Wooster on October 31, at 3:00PM where they make a final push for conference seeding in the playoffs.
