Komlodi goes undefeated, nets NCAC award

CLEVELAND -- Kenyon College first-year Kiara Komlodi put together perfect 4-0 records in singles and doubles play on the tennis courts this past weekend. On Tuesday, she was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women's tennis.

Komlodi, and the rest of the Owls team were busy, defeating Capital University and Otterbein University on Saturday, and then defeating Ohio Wesleyan University and John Carroll University in conference contests on Sunday. The Owls won all four matches by 7-0 team scores.

Playing in the team's No. 1 singles spot three times and in the No. 2 singles spot once, Komlodi chalked up a 4-0 record without dropping a single set. In fact, in those four matches, she won 48 games, compared to just eight for her opponents. None of her opponents logged more than two games in any set.

She was equally as impressive in doubles play. Pairing with senior Shadia Amado Aguad, the duo played twice at No. 1 in the Kenyon lineup and twice at No. 2. Three of their doubles matches they won by 6-0 scores and the other they won by a 6-1 count.

Komlodi is now 11-1 this season in singles play and 7-2 in doubles play. She and the rest of the Kenyon team have a tall order on deck, as they head to Indiana on Sunday to play a neutral-site match against Washington University in St. Louis, the No. 1-ranked women's team in NCAA Division III.
