Kenyon divers wrap up season at regional meet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Vying for a spot at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championship, two Kenyon College divers came up just a bit short during weekend competition in the NCAA Region 1 Diving Championships, held at Kalamazoo College.

Kenyon junior Lucy Cassell-Kelley, who placed ninth on the one-meter board Friday evening, was within reach of a qualifying spot, however, Saturday's 12th-place finish on the three-meter board left her just a few spots short of advancing her season.

The Region 1 Championship was allotted nine qualifiers among the 32 divers competing. Placements across both boards were considered in the advancement of qualifiers.

Cassell-Kelley wound up with a Saturday score of 384.90 on the three-meter plank. She managed two dives that scored over 40 points--the back 2 ½ somersault tuck and the inward 2 ½ somersault tuck, which she performed for her eighth and ninth dive, respectively, out of 11 dives. Her score of 44.55 on the inward was the fourth-best tally of that round.

Cassell-Kelley was not the sole Kenyon representative. Sophomore Nadia Milovich was not too far off from Cassell-Kelley. Milovich used her 11 dives to post a final score of 377.25 and finished in 14th place.

Milovich cleared the 40-point score three times early in her routine. She hit 40.95 on her back-to-back fourth and fifth dives, and then followed up with a 40.80 on her sixth dive. Her two 40.95 scores were the best and third-best scores of those two rounds.
