OBERLIN, Ohio – One day after seeing its winning streak snapped, the No. 11-ranked Kenyon College men's tennis team responded in emphatic fashion Saturday, rolling past Oberlin College 6-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Hunsinger Courts.
With the victory, the Owls improved to 17-2 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 5-0, while Oberlin dropped to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in NCAC competition.
The Yeomen grabbed the early advantage after doubles play, securing wins on courts one and three to claim the opening point. Kenyon's lone doubles victory came from the No. 2 pairing of Jay Kedar Dixit and Paulo Pocasangre Kreling, who earned a 6-3 win over Zain Makada and Enrique Margain.
Kenyon quickly turned the tide in singles action, sweeping all six courts to secure the comeback victory. Maximo Llamas Castellanos delivered a gritty performance at the top position, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Dash Smith 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in a super tiebreak.
Alejandro Gonzalez cruised at the No. 2 slot with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Shawn Lisann, while Pocasangre followed with another dominant outing on court three, topping Makada 6-1, 6-0. Juozas Cioladis added to the momentum with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Margain at court four.
The Owls continued to shine down the lineup. Colombian native Eliezer Gonzalez battled through a tightly contested opening set before pulling away for a 7-6 , 6-2 win over Cameron Weiss at the five spot, and Stylianos Papamichael closed the afternoon with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Sebastien Naginski on court six.
Up next, the Owls will travel east to face Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the nonconference matchup.
