GILBERT, Ariz – The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III rankings, released this week, saw the Kenyon College men's tennis team move up three spots to No. 11 nationally as the Owls continued their strong spring campaign.
Kenyon has now won seven straight matches since March 6 and improved its record to 15-1 overall. During that stretch, the Owls have collected wins over four nationally ranked opponents, helping fuel their rise in the national poll.
Regionally, Kenyon checked in at No. 5 in the latest rankings. The Owls trail only the University of Chicago, Denison University, Case Western Reserve University, and Washington University in St. Louis in the region's top five.
Kenyon also landed two players inside the regional singles rankings.
Alejandro Gonzalez was slotted No. 6 after putting together a strong 13-2 overall record. He has been particularly effective in dual play, going 4-1 at the No. 1 singles position and a perfect 4-0 at No. 2.
Just behind him,
Maximo Llamas Castellanos earned the No. 8 spot in the regional singles rankings. Castellanos leads the Owls with a 19-3 overall record and remains unbeaten in dual matches at 15-0. He has posted a 5-0 mark at No. 1, a 7-0 record at No. 2, and a 3-0 tally at No. 3 this season.
In regional doubles action, the tandem of
Juozas Cioladis and Llamas Castellanos climbed to No. 3 in the rankings. The pair has been dominant throughout the season, carrying a perfect 19-0 record, including an 11-0 mark in the No. 1 doubles position and a 4-0 record at No. 2.
