Owls blank Oberlin in NCAC semifinal

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The No. 14-ranked Kenyon College women's tennis team started its postseason path on Saturday by defeating the Oberlin College Yeowomen, 4-0, in the semifinal round of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Tournament, held inside the Jasper Tennis Center.

The win bumped the Owls' overall record to 17-5 and moved them into the NCAC Tournament's final match, which will be held at Kenyon on Sunday at noon. The Owls opponent in the final match will be the winner of the tournament's other semifinal match between Denison University and John Carroll University.

Kenyon got to work right away in doubles play on Saturday. The team's No. 1 pairing of Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime cruised to a 6-0 win against Oberlin's team of Hannah Soong and Freya Rahm. The overall doubles point was secured when Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi posted a 6-2 victory at No. 2, defeating the Oberlin duo of Rachel Allen and Scarlett Kingston.

Lazaridou kept things rolling in singles play and improved her personal season record to 16-6 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stella Kollmansberger in the No. 1 match. Shortly after that ended, Komlodi tacked on another Kenyon team point with her 6-1, 6-1 victory against Kingston in the No. 2 match.

Amado Aguad then delivered the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Eva Lopez in the No. 4 singles match.

Kenyon's appearance in Sunday's NCAC championship match will give the Owls the opportunity to win their fourth straight conference tournament title.
