CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Kenyon College men's soccer team fell to No. 3 Case Western Reserve University, 3-0, Saturday evening at DiSanto Field as the Spartans scored three second-half goals.
The Owls (5-2-0) controlled much of the first half, recording seven shots to just one for the Spartans and taking three corner kicks. Kenyon goalkeeper Matthew Kayser was not called upon to make a save in the opening 45 minutes, while CWRU goalkeeper Carter Shedd made two saves to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
CWRU (7-0-0) broke through just 1:16 into the second half when Saiheed Jah scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Owen Guffey. The goal gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
Kenyon continued to generate opportunities following the opening goal. Andrew Adams, Hayato Ishii, Moustapha Gassama and Adrian Bondartsov each registered shots on target, but CWRU goalkeeper Carter Shedd turned away each attempt.
The Spartans extended their advantage in the 68th minute when Gavin Trosch scored his second goal of the season. Aydin Sumer and Jah were credited with assists on the play, putting CWRU ahead 2-0.
Ohta Kamiya added the final goal in the 87th minute, scoring his second of the season off an assist from Mitchell Fein.
Despite being shut out, Kenyon finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. The Owls also held 60 percent of the possession.
Shedd finished with six saves for CWRU, while Kayser made three saves for Kenyon.
Kenyon returns to action Saturday, September 26, when the Owls travel to Adrian College for a non-conference match at 4:00 pm.
