Adams scores twice in Owls road win

ADRIAN, Mich. — In a non-conference match Saturday afternoon, the Kenyon College men's soccer team (6-2-0) took on Adrian College (3-4-0), with the Owls hoping to gain some momentum and bounce back from a loss against No. 3-ranked Case Western Reserve University. 

The visiting Owls were able to do just that, as they notched a convincing 4-0 win over the Bulldogs with some impressive offensive play against an Adrian squad that had won three of its last four matches.

Things began evenly, as possession frequently swapped in the first ten minutes, with saves recorded by both Kenyon goalkeeper Matt Kayser and Adrian's Eli Sizemore, who was able to prevent two goals from scoring early on.

It was after Kenyon took its second shot that things began intensifying for the Owls offense. The next four shot attempts all came from Kenyon, with Sizemore adding on three more saves all in the first thirty minutes of play.

After a few substitutions and a couple of chances from the Bulldogs, the Owls were finally able to capitalize on their momentum with a brilliant goal from Andrew Adams, assisted by Emmett Brown.

That 1-0 lead after one period of play propelled the Owls into a bevy of offensive success during the second half. 

Lucas de Alarcon was able to capitalize on a chance at the 47-minute mark and, after more pressure early into the half, Adams scored his second goal of the match to the low left side.

Forty minutes later and with less than three minutes left on the game clock, Kenyon's Clyde Felsen took advantage of a major chance, scoring to finish off the display as a 4-0 Kenyon win.

On the other side of the field, Kenyon's defense managed a clean sheet, fortified by Kayser's three saves.

The Owls managed a whopping 28 shots during the match, with 14 landing on goal, where Sizemore wound up with 10 saves for the Bulldogs. 

Kenyon has the next six days away from competition and will return to the pitch in Gambier next Saturday for an alumni weekend bout against Depauw University.
