After accumulating three years of experience as a defensive coach at Christopher Newport University, Brian Stroup joined the Kenyon College football staff prior to the 2012 season. Stroup, now in his fourth year, remains on the defensive side of the ball and will work with the Lords’ defensive linemen.
Â
With Stroup on staff, the CNU Captains won the USA South Conference title and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships in 2010 and 2011. The defense ended both seasons ranked in the top three of the USA South in points allowed per game and rushing yards allowed per game. In that same span, three players Stroup coached earned all-conference honors.
Â
In addition to his work with the defense, Stroup’s responsibilities at Christopher Newport included scouting, recruiting, and coordinating video for the team.
Â
Stroup began the transition to the sidelines as a student assistant coach at CNU after a successful four-year career with the Captains. He earned four letters as an offensive lineman, won a pair of conference championships, and twice appeared in the NCAA tournament during his playing days. Stroup graduated with his bachelor’s degree in communications in May 2010.Â
