In his second year on the Kenyon College coaching staff, Stephen Sorrells continues to help take the program's offense to new heights as the Lords’ offensive line coach and run-game coordinator. Hired in the summer of 2012, he arrived on campus after spending the previous two seasons at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, where he directed a successful offensive line and demonstrated the ability to recruit at an institution with rigorous academic standards.
Prior to working at Occidental, Sorrells was the offensive coordinator at Fort Dale Academy in his hometown of Greenville, Alabama. His spread offense set the school's single-season records for total yards, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. One year before that, he was the head coach/offensive coordinator at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama.
Sorrells' coaching experience also covered stints at Edgewood Academy in Elmore, Alabama, and at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. While at Edgewood, he helped guide the Wildcats to back-to-back 9-1 seasons and a 2004 AISA 3A state runner-up finish. At Faulkner, he worked the program's first three seasons and helped get the Eagles off the ground.
During his college years, Sorrells spent one year at Huntingdon College before transferring to Auburn University Montgomery, where he received a bachelor's degree in sports leadership.
