Steve Gruenberg

Steve Gruenberg is in his eighth year as an assistant coach for the Lords, working primarily with the pitching staff and assisting with recruiting. During the 2019 season, Gruenberg helped Kenyon's pitching staff post the third-best strikeouts-per-nine-innings (8.57) mark in school history while the Lords went 21-16. He also helped coach three All-NCAC selections including utility player and pitcher Patrick O'Leary.

Two seasons ago, in 2018, he helped the program reach the NCAC Tournament for the first time since 2012. Then in the 2016 season, Gruenberg pushed senior pitcher Sam Gillespie to second team All-NCAC honors. 
 
During his first five years at Kenyon, Gruenberg also served as an assistant football coach working with wide receivers, linebackers and as the Director of Football Operations. In 2012-13, Gruenberg's first at Kenyon, both teams enjoyed great success as the Lords had their best season since 2005 on the gridiron and, on the baseball diamond, Kenyon posted its second straight 20-win season. Additionally, both sports featured one player who signed to play professionally at year’s end.
 
In summer months, Gruenberg is in his eighth year serving as the pitching coach for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He also serves as the Mariners Youth Clinic Coordinator.
 
Prior to Kenyon, he worked as an assistant coach at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He assisted with all areas of the program and his primary responsibility was working with the pitching staff. He began his coaching career at Briggs High School in Columbus, Ohio where he worked with the football, baseball and basketball teams.
 
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Gruenberg went to Marietta College and pitched for the Pioneers for two seasons, including the 2006 national championship campaign. In 2010, he earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in human development and family sciences.
 
He’s currently enrolled and taking online classes at the University of Missouri and will earn a master’s degree of educational, school, and counseling psychology with an emphasis in positive coaching.
