John Marhefka begins his fifth year as assistant coach for the Lords basketball team. He brings over 21 years of collegiate and high school coaching experience to Kenyon including 16 years as a head coach.

As a head coach, Marhefka spent four seasons (2002-2005) at NCAA Division II program Slippery Rock University. Prior to that, he coached Armstrong Atlantic State University during the 2001-2002 campaign and served as the Pirates’ assistant coach the year prior.

Most recently, Marhefka was Centerburg’s head boys’ basketball coach from 2011-15. He’s also had high school coaching gigs at Geneva, Buckeye and Shaker Heights high schools.

As a player, Marhefka was a four-year letterwinner at Hiram College where he graduated with a degree in English and earned a secondary education certification in 1993. He attained his master’s degree from Armstrong Atlantic in 1998 with a concentration in health science. Â
